Blades Make Donation

Over the past 2 years, the Mark’s Work Wearhouse Mount Pearl Junior Blades and the H.J. Bartlett Mount Pearl Senior Blades have combined efforts in a charity golf tournament, partnered with The Candlelighters. The Candlelighters are a non-profit organization that help families of sick children with Cancer. Their biggest expense that they incur is “Camp Delight”, a week long camp for kids that help them think of something other than their illness.

This year, both teams combined to present a donation of $4500 to The Candlelighters. The above picture is the presentation that took place during the Senior Blades home opener. Presenting the donation to The Candlelighters are Dave Murphy (Treasurer, Junior Blades) and Jim Hare (former Junior Blades coach, and current GM of the Senior Blades).

    Ryan leads the way, as Blades complete 3 goal comback

    A scoreless first period lead into a 6 goal second period leaving the Mark’s Work Wearhouse Mount Pearl Junior Blades down 4 to 2. The Blades second period goals were scored by Matt Ryan and Paul Mitchelmore. Aaron Schwartz scored early in the third, and Ryan scored his second goal of the game to tie it up close to the midway point of the final frame. Robert Barrett scored the winner with less than 8 minutes left to play, and he also picked up 2 assists. Ryan was named Jungle Jim’s Home Team Player of the Game, while Andrew Cole received Visiting Team Player of the Game. Nick Rodway was between the pipes, and made 42 saves earning the “W”.

      Blades acquire Duffett

      Due to an injury suffered by Harry Bartlett in the last game, the Blades have acquired goaltender Jonathon Duffett. Duffett has played the last 2 years for the Southen Shore Junior Breakers, and brings experience to the Blades. Although the loss of Bartlett is rough, the Blades are excited about this acquisition and look forward to maintaining a solid goalie duo of Duffett and rookie Nick Rodway.

      The Blades next action will be this Sunday at the Mount Pearl Glacier against the Breakers, game time is 7:30pm.

        Weekend Round-up

        This weekend has a huge test for the Mark’s Work Wearhouse Junior Blades, and they answered it with a split in 2 games against the St.John’s Caps and the Celtics.

        Against the Caps, on Saturday night, the Blades held a 2-1 lead going into the third period, before falling to the Caps 6-2. Robert Barrett and Mark Hand had the Blades goals, with Hand being named Jungle Jim’s Visiting team Player of the Game.

        Sunday night, at O’heir arena, the Blades came out on top with a 5-2 victory over the Celtics. Harry Bartlett started in net for the Blades, but left early due to injury. Nick Rodway saved all 20 shots he faced after replacing the injured Bartlett. There was no score after the first period, while the Blades has a 2-0 advantage after 2 periods. Blades Player of the Game, Steve Bailey, led the way with 2 goals and 1 assist, while Matt Mcgrath also chipped in with 2 goals, Mike Rose added a goal and an assist, and Matt Ryan picked up 2 helpers.

        The Blades will see action again next Sunday, when they host the Southern Shore Jr. Breakers.

          50/50 Draw Information

          The Mark’s Work Wearhouse Junior Blades are proud to announce that they will be holding a 50/50 draw on a weekly basis. Along with tickets that are sold game night at the stadium, tickets can also be purchased throughout the week at various local businesses, including, Marie’s Mini Mart, Shopper’s Drug Mart and Dougie’s Bar and Grill. Tickets can be purchased for 3 tickets for $2, or 10 tickets for $5. Draws will take place Sunday nights at the Blades home games at the Mount Pearl Glacier. Winning ticket numbers will also be posted here on, www.jrblades.com.

            2009-2010 Season

            Welcome to the new look Mark’s Work Wearhouse Mount Pearl Junior Blades website. We are very excited about the 2009-2010 St.John’s Junior Hockey League season and defending our title as League Champions. We’ve seen some old faces graduate and leave the team, while we have many new faces joining us this year as well.

            The season is currently underway, and the Blades have a 5-1 record. So far in this young season, the Blades have the top 3 scorers in the league with Steve Bailey leading the way. He is joined by linemates Mike Rose and new Blade, Aaron Schwartz. The Blades have two big games this coming weekend with division rivals, the Celtics and the St,john’s Caps, both games being played on the road. Come out and show some support for the Blades, and check back to jrblades.com for game results.
