A stellar month for Robert Barrett has been perfectly capped by winning the inaugural Danny Cleary Entrance Scholarship, valued at $1000. Barrett graduated from the minor system last spring and this year finds himself a member of the Mount Pearl Mark’s Work Wearhouse Blades of the St. John’s Junior Hockey League. He plans on studying engineering at Memorial. The scholarship is available to male and female students in any full-time program of study at MUN who have played the highest level of minor hockey available in their graduating year of high school, and have academic merit.
The award comes for Barrett after a fantastic month of hockey, where in 5 or 6 games he finished with 13 points, including a 4 goal, 5 point night against the Trinity Placentia Flyers. He was also a major contributing factor against C.B North Stars and Avalon Capitals with assists on both late game winning goals from Lucas Dearing and Stephen Bailey respectively. As well, his third period goal against the Southern Shore Breakers proved to be the winner in a 5-4 Blades win on November 1st. Robert also picked up the League Player of the Week Award for week 7.
