The Mark’s Work Wearhouse Mount Pearl Junior Blades continued their strong play Sunday night at the Glacier, with a 5-3 victory over the first place rivals, the St.John’s Caps.

The game started slowly for the Blades, going down 3-0 early in the first and having Lucas Dearing sent off with a game misconduct. The three goals resulting from some sloppy play, Coach Cranford called a timeout to settle any nerves and get the boys back on track. The second period started better for the Blades with Michael Rose getting their first with a stellar backhand roofed over Cap’s goalie Joey Yetman just 4 minutes in. Solid play throughout the second ended with the Blades trailing 3-2 after a late goal from Steve Bailey.

The tying goal for the Blades came just 4 minutes into the third period as Michael Rose fired a slap shot high slot for his second of the evening from Bailey and Robert Barrett. Bailey got the winning goal just two minutes later from the draw tipping defenseman Larry Gray’s point shot through the legs of  Yetman.

The fifth and final goal came as Barrett gave Rose a great pass, shrugging off the Caps defender he fired it over Yetman’s shoulder for his third of the night.

Jungle Jim’s Home Team Player of the Game, Mike Rose, scored a hat-trick, with Captain Steve Bailey adding the other 2 tallies. Nick Rodway turned away 42 shots and made several great saves to keep the Blades in it after the initial setback.

The win extends the Blades winning streak to 7 games. They will look to extend that steak with 2 tough road games this coming weekend. Friday night, they travel to the Southern Shore, and Sunday they will meet the Celtics at O’Hehir arena.
